Alba Adriatica became a "Cycle District" obtaining the Yellow Flag, an award created by the FIAB (Italian Federation of Bicycle’s Friend) and assigned to those municipalities that are committed to improving the cycling of their territories making them suitable to be lived and visited by bycile through accomodation, services and activities; a useful tool for citizens and tourists that allows to compare, with homogeneous criteria, how much a place is really "bicycle-friendly".

The indicators that are considered for the award are:

  • Cycle tourism: infrastructures dedicated to cyclists (cycle paths, bicycle workshops, bike rental, guides for cyclists, accommodation facilities that are attentive to the needs of cyclists, etc.) that make the city welcoming and open to cycling tourism.
  • Urban mobility converted to facilitate the choice of the bike as a means of daily transport.
  • Governance: planning choices for services and facilities that promote a different mobility model.
  • Communication and promotion to making citizens and tourists aware of the issue of sustainable mobility through events and initiatives aimed to workers, traders, families and children.
